Meet Mingjia Chen, Amft

Mingjia Chen (she/her) is a pre-licensed professional with a master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Northwestern University. Through her professional training, Mingjia has worked with individuals, couples and families with a wide range of needs including conflict resolution, child behavior issues and stress management. She particularly enjoys working with families and couples experiencing conflict and communication issues, general stress management, identity exploration, acculturation challenges, etc.

Mingjia is passionate about making the therapy room a space for healing and growth by guiding clients to identify and change patterns of constraining behaviors, thoughts and communication. Being trained in a systemic model, she tailors her treatment to each client’s needs by utilizing methods and tools from a variety of models.

Mingjia’s style of therapy is personable and warm, and she always tries to meet the clients where they are. Having served the underprivileged population in the Community Program at the Family Institute, she is aware of the unique impacts of cultural elements including race, ethnicity, sexual and gender identity, and religious beliefs, and she welcomes her clients to share their life experience with curiosity and openness. She believes that the journey of healing starts with a strong therapeutic relationship, and she collaborates with her clients to find their strengths within in order to achieve their therapeutic goals.
