Meet meredith Merchant, AMFT, MEd
Welcome. My name is Meredith (she/her/they), and I am a relational psychotherapist (MFT). My approach to treatment is collaborative and focuses on helping people reconnect with their most authentic selves. Much of our emotional suffering stems from a disconnection between ourselves and our relationship with life. I work from a queer-feminist lens and use empirical methodology to cultivate access points for change.
My primary methods include dialectical behavioral therapy, integrative systemic therapy, family therapy, couple therapy, mindfulness, play, meditation, and humanistic approaches. I work across the lifespan with children, adolescents, parents, couples, non-traditional couples, non-traditional families, and individual adults. I welcome clients of all identities and their intersections, whether through gender, sexuality, ethnicity, nationality, culture, or any other aspect of the self.
I received my Master's in Marriage and Family Therapy and Post-Graduate Fellowship in Mindfulness and Behavior Therapy from Northwestern University. During my clinical training, I completed The Family Institute's Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) internship and the community program practicum. I helped individuals, couples, and families work through complex, intergenerational issues. I also hold a master's degree in education. I worked as a professional educator for over a decade before becoming a relational therapist.
Above all, my primary therapeutic purpose is to help people gain a deeper understanding of themselves so they can live the lives they want to live. Please do not hesitate to ask if you have any questions or want to know more about beginning therapy.
