Meet Anna Spéder, Amft

Welcome! I am glad you're here, exploring options for support. Therapy is a vulnerable process; at times it can feel challenging, while other times it’s more lighthearted. Eitherway, I strive for clients to experience therapy as a rewarding process. In order for that to happen, I strongly believe that the client-therapist relationship needs to feel like a good match. To get a sense if I might be a good match to you I would like to offer some information about myself and my approach to therapy.

My name is Anna and my pronouns are she/her. I am originally from Budapest, Hungary and moved to the United States to attend school here. I completed my BA in Psychology at San Francisco State University and my MS in Marriage and Family Therapy at Northwestern University. In addition to my studies I have worked with domestic violence survivors and at-risk youth in the Bay Area. Outside of the therapy room I enjoy spending time in nature, spoiling my dog and connecting with my loved ones.

The "key ingredients" to my therapeutic approach are humility, non-judgmental curiosity and empathy. In my approach, I value collaboration and utilize the client's existing strengths. I believe that every client is the expert of their own life, and I strive to offer guidance, support and an additional perspective. There is no one size fits all treatment to therapy, therefore I work with clients to tailor our sessions to fit their needs and to meet them where they are at. Using a culturally sensitive lens, I strive to continuously deepen my understanding of systems of inequality and their impact, intersectionality, innate biases and the significance of one’s social location.

In addition to these key ingredients, I draw from evidence based models, such as Emotionally Focused Therapy, Internal Family Systems, and intergenerational family therapy models. I offer therapy to individuals, couples and families. Some of my particular interests include working with immigrant populations, intercultural couples, diverse sexualities, relationship structures and belief systems. However, I welcome everyone into the therapy room so please reach out if we feel like a good match!
